750
ANnual procedures
Full-time, ABIM-certified interventional cardiologists perform more than 750 procedures annually. These include right and left heart catheterization, transvenous and permanent pacemaker implantation, and urgent pericardiocentesis. ZSFG Interventional Cardiology provides round-the clock coverage essential for the City and County of San Francisco Emergency Medical Services STAR Program. Patients with ST elevation myocardial infarction and/or return of spontaneous circulation after cardiac arrest (STAR) are provided percutaneous coronary intervention, intra-aortic balloon pump placement, therapeutic hypothermia, and related critical care measures shown to improve outcomes. Hospital and cardiac catheterization laboratory data demonstrate that ZSFG Interventional Cardiology is the most active STAR Center across the network and cares for more ST elevation myocardial infarction patients than other UCSF campuses. Current collaborations with DPH and UCSF leadership include initiatives to:
- update state licensure to allow interventions on stable patients at ZSFG
- modernize mechanical circulatory support programs at ZSFG
- integrate the ZSFG campus into the UCSF Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program
